ABOUT US:
We are a family run outfitting business specializing in remote
wilderness, fair chase hunts.
Our permitted area is located both in and out of the Frank Church River
of no Return Wilderness area. Our units 27 and 28 are part of the Salmon
Challis National Forest. Our permitted area is approximately 160 square
miles of unforgettable backcountry beauty.
We will provide you with a wilderness experience
to match the sheer magnitude of the Frank Church River of no Return. It is
a land of clear rivers, deep canyons, and rugged mountains.
The Frank is the largest wilderness in the lower 48,
encompassing 2,362,767 acres. It is much the same as when the Sheepeater
Indians roamed these canyons and painted pictographs in there hunting
caves.
Our goal is to provide you with the opportunity
to harvest a mature trophy of the species of your choice. We will give you
a true wilderness experience in a setting that you will never forget.
Our gentle, well-trained horse and mules will
pack you, and your gear, into remote camps that are first class in every
way. We hunt out of deluxe tent camps, with cots, foam pads, and
woodstoves. We have a shower tent available for you and some of the best
food you ever ate. Our cooks will serve you with home made meals in a
friendly western atmosphere.
Our hunts begin at our remote backcountry ranch,
the B-C, which is accessible by bush plane, or you can drive into the
ranch, which is 50 miles from Challis, Idaho.
We can assist you with any flight arrangements
using professional, experienced charter flying services. We will also pick
you up at the Missoula, Montana, airport.
Let Middle Fork Outfitters show you what a true
fair chase wilderness experience can be.
ELK/DEER HUNTING:
The Middle Fork country is fantastic game rich country. We have good
populations of all of the species we hunt. All of our hunts are fair chase
with experienced guides that just love to hunt. Jim Bridger would be proud
to have these mountain men in his brigade.

Elk hunting starts in September with the bugle season.
When the big bulls start gathering their cows and bugling their challenges
it will get your blood boiling like nothing else you have ever heard. This
is one of the few places left that you can hunt elk with a rifle while
they’re in the rut.

In mid October we head over to our unit 28 area for
opening season there. We see a lot of elk on these late hunts and use spot
and stalk techniques, along with bugling. November has us glassing for
those big bulls up on the ridges. During this time the elk are moving to
their winter range and with elk numbers high we offer an excellent
opportunity to harvest a mature bull. Our stock will get us into this
remote country but most of the hunting will be done on foot.

We offer high country trophy mule deer hunts in
combination with our elk hunts. These late season hunts are a great time
to harvest a trophy buck. The general archery season in our area is in
December for elk and deer (either sex). We hunt out of the B-C Ranch in
comfortable log cabins. The elk and deer are on their winter range and
offer plenty of opportunity to the archer.

Our success rate averages 70% for elk and 80% for
deer. Of the elk harvested 85% are 5x5s or better and of the deer
harvested, 65% score 170 points or better.

MOUNTAIN LION HUNTING:
For unsurpassed beauty and excitement come join us for a winter mountain
lion. We have a large population of trophy lions and we have had great
success hunting them using our well-trained hounds.
If you have never hunted lions with hounds, you are in
for a great adventure. We offer two different lion hunts. Either of these
hunts makes for an exciting hunt.

The first hunt we offer is out of our backcountry
ranch on Silver Creek. On this hunt we take you into the ranch on
snowmobiles and hunt from cabins on horseback as well as on snowmobiles
and hiking. This is a non-wilderness hunt.
The second hunt we offer is a wilderness hunt. We will
snowmobile into the B-C Ranch where we will be spending the night. From
there we will ride the horses down to the Middle Fork of the Salmon, for
our stay at the historic Tappan Ranch. We will be staying in a log cabin
that was built over 100 years ago. We will combine these hunts to take
advantage of our two lion areas.

Most of the hunting is done on horseback. When the
hounds cut a Mountain Lion track. Then we will be on foot listening to the
cry of the hounds. With an added trophy fee there is also a great
opportunity to harvest a Bobcat.
From this camp you will have the chance to see Bighorn
Sheep, Elk, Deer, and Mountain Goats. During this time of year, the Middle
Fork country is the perfect place for a wilderness adventure. So come join
us for a trophy Mountain Lion Hunt.

BIG HORN SHEEP &
MOUNTAIN GOAT HUNTS:
Bighorn Sheep and Mountain Goats are most sportsmen's dreams. We can make
that dream come true. We offer ten day fully guided hunts with two guides
per hunter. These hunts can be combined with elk, deer, or bear. The first
step in these hunts is to draw the license. The deadline for the
applications is April 30. We will handle all the details upon receiving
the correct license fees. We have a large number of mature rams in our
area giving hunters a great opportunity to harvest a record book or near
record book ram. On the average we only take one sheep hunter per year,
giving our rams a chance to become trophy class.

BEAR HUNTING:
Come join us for a Rocky Mountain bear hunt at our ranch on Silver
Creek. Spring is a beautiful season in the Salmon River Mountains and bear
hunting is at its best. We offer hunts over baits, spot and stalk hunting,
and for the adventuresome, hound hunting. We have an abundance of bear and
a large area to hunt them in.
During our unit 28 hunts you will be staying at the
B-C Ranch on Silver Creek. We will be using pickups, four-wheelers, and
horses on these hunts.

On the Unit 27 hunts you will be staying at the
historic Tappan Ranch Cabin on the Middle Fork of the Salmon. This area is
rich in history and famous for its abundance of game. These are horseback
rides and require two days of packing in and out.
