ABOUT US:

Why we are D-Place to hunt in North Carolina
  D’Place is an active member of Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA). We have worked diligently on Trophy Deer Management strategies at D’Place for several years now. These same strategies will apply to all hunters who enjoy the benefits of our efforts.
  Whitetail Bucks have obtained maximum antler size between 5 and 8 years of age. To make these older mature bucks our main priority, it is important for us at D-Place to maintain an aggressive doe harvest and habitat management program. We are firm believers in the proven philosophy “Let them go, so they can grow”. In order to adhere to this philosophy, it requires, you the hunter to pass on many younger bucks with healthy racks, but with this in mind, we hope you will return next season to be greeted by an older mature Trophy Buck ready for harvest. We maintain all harvest records. This enables us to assess and perfect new management strategies for future years of great hunting.

The Big Whitetail Buck Hunt
The hunt experience begins as soon as you arrive at D-Place. Your personal guide will be available to discuss the hunt with you. You’ll be dropped off within walking distance of your private stand before daybreak. Hand held radios will be available and used at all times. We have several different types of stands on D-Place, please inform us in advance of any special needs you may have. We ask that you remain in your stand until your guide is in radio contact with you at the end of the hunt day. At this time you and your guide will begin to retrieve your kills. For the safety of all hunters and guides, we must express, “DO NOT LEAVE THE STAND” until instructed to do so.

The Black Bear Hunt
Hyde County and D-Place pride themselves on having some of the largest Black Bear in the area. The 2006 season harvested many nice bear. D-Place weigh-ins ranged from 280 to 620 lbs. The area record is 880 lbs. We would love to see you break that record this season.
  Jim has observed some real beauties ready for the 2007 season. The “Critter Hearse” will be at your disposal to haul out the record breaker this season!

Jim Stevens - Owner & Lead Guide
  Jim is an avid hunter and sportsman. He harvested his first deer with a bow at the age 9. His bow hunting mentors were his father and ‘Ole’ Norm Canoy of Clemson, SC. Jim has practiced Quality Deer Management since the late 80’s and recently became active member of the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA). Jim is currently the Branch Vice President and is a REACH committee member for the QDMA.
  Jim’s passion for the outdoors brought him to Hyde County North Carolina in 2003 to harvest a black bear with his bow. During that hunt, Jim discovered that Hyde County was uniquely different than any other region he had hunted. He experienced an added sense of excitement hunting this region for both deer and bear because of the high concentration of black bear. Jim took his first black bear in December 2005. This experience was so exhilarating that Jim has now turned his energies towards creating a facility where others can enjoy this incredible experience. A facility where first-timers and experienced hunters alike will have the experience of a lifetime. Jim has accomplished this by creating a quality habitat for the animals and a safe environment for hunters.
  Jim's "hands on" approach to hunting and long days working on the farm give him unique insights into how he can help make your hunting experience the best ever! Jim's passion for the outdoors and hunting know-how are quickly making him one of the area's most respected hunting guides and animal managers.

Amy Williams - Hunt Coordinator
  Amy Williams is a life long resident of Hyde County NC where the wildlife outnumbers the people.  She has vast knowledge of the history and heritage of the coastal area of the Pamlico Sound and is a direct descendant of Black Beard the Pirate.
  Amy serves as the Hunt Coordinator for D-Place as well as hostess for guests when they arrive at the Lodge.  She also serves delicious Southern Cookin when hunters return from a successful day in the field.

Lee “TadPole” Williams
  Lee has worked with the D-Place staff as a stand manager for four years.  Lee makes sure the stands are in order and helps make sure all safety equipment is installed.  He escorts deer and bear hunters to their stands to ensure their safety in the high bear density woods of Hyde County .  He also helps with tracking, retrieval, and cleaning of the hunters harvest.

GAME PROCESSING:
Our top quality skinning racks, scales and coolers make bringing your kill to the table quick and easy. The Critter Morgue has all the latest conveniences of hot/cold water, ice machines, scales, tables and hanging racks. We’ve even thought of a hanging porch swing so you can kick back and relax between hunts!

The Lodge
Your hunting package includes a comfortable stay at our Lodge located in Engelhard, NC. At the lodge you will enjoy all the comforts of home, southern cooking at it’s finest, anything from local fresh seafood to venison stew. Please notify the lodge in advance of any allergies, so we can accommodate your personal needs

“Critter Hearse™”
D-Place is home to the world famous Critter Hearse™. This enormous machine is equipped with winches and plenty of space to retrieve and haul that monster kills. The Critter Hearse™ can go where other machines only dream to explore. Whether it’s a 10 pt. Whitetail or a 700lb.
